Ronaldo Fadul – A man that enjoys spending his time surfing in Brazil.
In the documentary “Happy” I identified myself most with Ronaldo Fadul, a man that enjoys his time surfing in brazil. “To be yourself, is to do what brings you tranquility in life” (Ronaldo Fadul). He expresses a philosophy that is worth noting as he follows the trail to peace suggesting everyone to do the same no matter what the path might be. Wadi Rum Productions. (2011). Happy. I find that I connect with his philosophy the most in the documentary because I live in a similar way of tranquility. Doing what I love in order to be happy, is the teaching of the sport I love ‘Pole Vault,’ if I could coach for 6 days a week or even train myself for the pole vault I would. I can do it because it brings me peace and happiness to learn and teach others how to PoleVault. Just as Ronaldo surfs because it brings him joy, I pole vault because it brings me the same. I believe that it is a true calling for me in the end knowing that this is the sport I grew to love since high school. Once became capable of showing my greatness I now have a strong meaning teach and train with a positive engagement leading to the pleasure of accomplishment when practising and competing.

I find your love and dedication for pole vault to be very inspiring. I have yet to find that thing in my life that I would or want to spend 6 days a week doing. As someone who has yet to find their true calling, do you ever worry or consider that this is not your true calling?

I have spent a lot of time thinking about my future and what it will consist of and what will be indefinite and what will be temporary. Having future plans set up and backup plans set up well lead me to be more motivated knowing that something will always be there no matter what life throws at me. In other words, planning ahead and having goals set up will leave me to worry less in the near future.

thank you for commenting! This is a good question and something that everyone should think about. as I think about what else makes me happy I think about my family, specifically my grandparents. visiting them and seeing them brings me peace and happiness knowing that time is not limitless so being with them is something that I can find peace within myself

I love and agree with this philosophy. I am extremely passionate about athletics as well, particularly soccer. I have played since preschool in recreational leagues, with my family, and on school teams. It’s odd when you seem to fall out of the passion or groove you had for something that meant so much for you. I was on the Whittier women’s soccer team over the summer but eventually quit before the season officially started because it didn’t bring me the same pleasure and joy that it had before. Now, I am a high school varsity soccer coach and I’m so grateful that I was able to continue being a part of the soccer world but in a different way than I had before. I’m curious, have you ever felt similarly about pole vaulting? What about it brings you so much joy?

There have been many ups and downs in sports for me, even the pole vault has thrown me for a ride. I have come to love many different sports, for instance, football was apart of my family pushing me to play for about 11 years. I presently gave up the sport my senior year of high school to finish playing track, the sport that I knew would take me to new heights and achievements distinguishing the difference between “what I love” and “what I love to do” and that’s where the balance of track and football have taken over in my life. I watch football to stay connected with friends and family and also as a source of entertainment. I play track for self-pleasure always trying to beat myself, just knowing that the only person that’s going to beat you is you, the only person that can hold you back is you. So every day goes by knowing that the vault is just another goal for me to reach for. I always told myself that if I ever stop competing I will never stop coaching the sport that made me ME.
