Faith in Humanity

to give and protect

As directed in class, we identified our character strength using the VIA Character Strength Survey to help find our signature strength. With the six variety of categories and twenty-four strength, my signature strength landed in humanity category of kindness. A simple definition can be the doing of favors and good deeds for others; helping them; taking care of them. I was not at all surprised with kindness as my top strength, I know myself too well to recognize that kindness is in my blood. Each and every day I carry kindness with myself by opening doors for others, smiling to anybody that I make eye contact with, complementing those who need it, and even helping out a stranger on a given situation. There have been instances that I have involved myself with serious car accidents just to make sure no one is in the way of potential danger. If that means directing traffic away from an accident or rushing to get a victim out of a burning car. I know myself to well to let an opportunity of kindness pass by. There are always going to be situations that go by knowing that you could have done something to make someone’s day. I am never afraid to take a step in the right direction. If kindness was in everybody’s agenda life on earth would function in pice and with no hate to one another.

together we can make a change

With the help of taking a class survey, we determined what each person’s strengths are, and were grouped into six strength profiles; transcendence, justice, temperance, wisdom, humanity, and courage. I was categorized in humanity along with 7 others discussing what it means for us to have kindness, love, and social intelligence. Some of us explained personal stories along with a group conversation on what additional things that can be done in order to achieve humanity. Classmate Mikayla provided a great example of what she does to show her kindness. “Paying for peoples Starbucks that are in line behind me brings me joy knowing that my kindness can go a long way” (Mikayla, 2020).   Hearing other people’s vision of kindness and bringing back faith in humanity brought me joy. This was also the biggest group out of the six with a lot to talk about and multiple ideas of proving random acts of kindness. I obtained a few simple acts of kindness that I will continuously use throughout my time; opening a door for an elderly woman, help load a case of water or anything heavy even complementing someone to make there day. I believe that in the future, those who provide kindness to others will provide faith back in humanity.

  1. Your stories about your acts of kindness during class were truly inspirational. I think it’s great that you picked up on so many of the suggestions of kindness in class, and I totally believe that you will act on them all. Has your strength in kindness motivated you towards your career path? — because I know my strength in kindness is the reason I’m going into healthcare.
